History
Hoke County Partnership for Children and Families is a tax-exempt, IRS-approved 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation that was formed as an outgrowth of strategic planning required to apply for Smart Start funding in 1993-1994.
The partnership incorporated in October 1994 and received a state grant from the Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Youth Services for the Support Our Students (SOS) program.
The Partnership continued to apply for funding through Smart Start, North Carolina's early childhood initiative, until 1996. In 1996, the Partnership received a planning grant to plan and establish programs to serve families of children 0-5 years. An executive director was hired in November, 1996. A two-year strategic plan was submitted and approved in May, 1997.
The first Smart Start services began with a pre-kindergarten program in the Hoke County Schools in February, 1998. As the Partnership continues to grow and gain experience in service delivery, services should continue to multiply, providing a wide array of services to meet the needs of families in Hoke County.
